After five weeks Granby’s first official year of ski club is complete! This is Granby’s second year having this amazing and fun opportunity. Last year there were only 6 students that participated in the ski club, so we did a co-op with Hopkins.
This year turned out to be a lot different! There were twenty five students that participated, seven of them being East Meadow students, three of them were returning from last year, and six of them were new with no skiing experience.
One of the best parts about ski club is that no experience is required! If you are thinking about trying it but scared because you don’t have experience, don’t worry because you can get a group lesson with the others that are learning too. This is particularly good because it is opening new opportunities for many people if they want to try it.
Once a week during the winter for five weeks all of the students that are participating get on a bus together and all ride up to Berkshire East in Charlemont, Massachusetts. Berkshire East is a great mountain, that’s where I learned how to ski and so many other people I know, and maybe even you too. From the school it’s only about an hour drive. We usually get to the mountain around 4pm and leave around about 8pm, so that leaves about four hours of skiing.
It’s a really fun experience and I recommend doing it. I do it with a small group of friends and it makes it even more enjoyable but you’ll definitely make some more.
Every trip we have done this year the conditions were enjoyable and it snowed for at least a little while while we were skiing. This year was really great since there were many more students so it made it so much more fun!
If you are thinking about it, you should definitely do it next year. Reach out to Ms. Funk if you have any questions about it or possibly participating!
