For the past two years, Kaitlyn Curran has helped lead her team to Western Mass soccer title, something she describes as a “really cool experience that not many teams get to have.” As a captain and center back, Kaitlyn says her role is made easier because her teammates are respectful, hardworking, and coachable. She explains that the team improves through consistent practice, running the same drills every day, and focusing on the fundamentals.
Kaitlyn also shared that one of her strengths is being open to learning, while she continues to work on maintaining confidence in difficult moments. When pressure rises during games, Kaitlyn and her team stay calm and treat each game like any other. If the opposing team has a standout scorer, they adjust by man-marking to shut down their strongest player.
Kaitlyn says support and teamwork are a big part of their success. The players cheer each other on during games and strengthen their bond off the field through pasta dinners.
Being ranked number one in the state adds pressure, but Kaitlyn views it as motivation rather than stress. She and her team understand that every opponent will be tough, so they never underestimate who they are playing.
One of her favorite memories is winning Western Mass with her closest friends and teammates. Throughout her soccer journey, Kaitlyn has learned how to overcome adversity, work with others, and lead with a positive attitude—because, as she says, “you can’t win with a bad attitude.”
Kaitlyn also reflected on how being an athlete has helped shape her beyond the field. She explained that soccer has taught her how to communicate, stay focused, and take responsibility for both her own performance and the team’s success. Leadership, she says, isn’t just about directing others—it’s about setting the example through effort, attitude, and consistency.
Whether she’s stepping into a big game or working through practice drills, Kaitlyn carries herself with determination and respect. These lessons, she believes, will stay with her long after her soccer career, helping her in school, friendships, and future goals.
