As of November 13, 2025, Mrs. Stapert’s art club has had its first official meeting. For about a month already, there have been unofficial meetings, but this last Thursday, it has officially started. Started via request of one of her students, the premise of it has seemed successful, with 5 kids showing up with barely any notification other than announcements. Supposedly, they have already reached roughly 10 members, but about half didn’t show up.
Mrs. Stapert answered several questions of mine during the meeting, for necessary clarification. She stated that the club was started when one student, Abigail Esquivel, brought up the possibility that one could be made specifically for art. When asked about a general overview of the club, Mrs. Stapert mentioned that its purpose was to be a space for anyone through grades 7-12 who want to do art. It will continue to be a safe space for anyone to work on their personal projects, although there will be community projects for everyone to participate in.
She has stated that everyone grades 7-12 is welcome to the club, no matter the skill level, as long as you participate in the creation of art. She continued further, where she mentioned that if you cannot make it in one week, but can the next, that is fine. She said that she can provide materials from her room for club members to use, but encourages them to bring in their own supplies, as there is no guarantee with the supplies we have, amount wise.
While I will not be participating in the club, I believe that it is a rather good idea, and the fact that it has been made as a place to chill out and work on personal and group projects, is wonderful. I wish the best of luck to Mrs. Stapert and all club members.
