Granby Jr./Sr. High school saw a sudden shift this summer with popular grading platform Plus Portals being replaced by new software Teacher Ease. However, this change has caused many students to ask the same question. Why? The decision was made after careful review of different grading and communication platforms. While Plus Portals had been used for years, Varsity Soccer coach and Finance Manager Todd Dorman reported “difficulties with the outdated interface”, as well as the limited features the platform provided. Teacher Ease was selected because it offers easier to access grades, easier parent communication, and better compatibility with student devices. However, the transition has not been seamless by any means. Sophomore Amare Fernandez has expressed his frustration with the change stating “I have no idea why the change was made.” However, Amare has also acknowledged the fact that the change could be good stating “It will take some time to get used to it but maybe it will be better”. Similarly, Staff are also having a hard time navigating the new app. While some have already jumped on the new features Teacher Ease provides, others are struggling to even put a grade in.
Only time will tell if Teacher Ease proves to be a genuine improvement or just another obstacle in students’ already busy school life. For now the change has only sparked plenty of curiosity as well as frustration, but as both students and teachers settle in, the hope is that the new system will make learning, grading, and communication easier.
