Dual enrollment is a system where students can take college courses in areas that they are interested in, and you can take these classes while in high school. There are a variety of classes you can take so there’s room for everyone. One benefit of this is if you take a class in dual enrollment that’s also required to graduate high school you are allowed to not take it as long as you are doing it for college. In Granby Junior Senior High there are three local colleges participating this year, Holyoke Community College (HCC), Elms College, and the University of Massachusetts (UMass). This program is only offered to 11th and 12 graders. This is beneficial to get prerequisites out of the way before even graduating high school.
In Granby there are 39 students that have enrolled in dual enrollment. 5 out of the 39 students do dual enrollment full time, Which means 5 students don’t even come to school, and just go to the college or do it online at home. If you are interested in dual enrollment you can go to the guidance suite and ask Ms. Bierden!
