Esports is an afterschool program where kids from grades 7 through 12 can play multiple online games against other schools. The program runs during the fall and is only eligible for students at Granby Jr / Sr High School only.
During Esports hours, students will play a variety of games (mostly made by Nintendo) where you will face off against another school. Each year the games that are played could change because of a lack of interest. Some of the games that we have played in the past are Super Smash Bros Ultimate, and Splatoon 3.
The after school hours are divided up into two sections: practice and games. The practices are usually from the end of school to around 3:30. On the days where there are actual games, we start off by doing practice for about an hour or so. Then the actual matches start around 4:30. Splatoon games are on Tuesdays and Super Smash Brothers games happen on Wednesdays.
Quinn Lavoie is the captain of Splatoon. He helps guide and teach the other players and newbies. For practices, they play in different game modes to get a feel of the different maps and matches they will play. Gene Kelker is the captain of Super Smash Bros Ultimate. “As captain, from my understanding, I’m basically the second coach”. He too helps and guides his teammates. During practices they face each other to help be able to go up against each other.
If you are interested in this program. Contact Brian Cipoletta for more information. You could also talk to any of the team captains for the different games for information about the program or the games.
Mr Cipoletta states, “It’s a great outlet for students to connect together over a shared hobby”.
